STORYTELLING CLUB
Once
upon a time
before paper, radio,
television and
computers were invented,
storytelling was the medium by which we taught and experiences were handed down
through the generations.
Storytelling is still the most effective form of
communication-since we may forget facts but hardly ever the story. That
is how we remember our heroes and heroines of days ago. It is our
history!
Successful telling or analyzing stories are
embodied in a 4-part formula:
1) Personae (a person, actor, group)
2) Trigger (what this person sought,
expressed, desired, yearned for)
3) Conflict (complication, obstacle,
forbidden)
4) Outcome (resolution, climax, learning
or moral of story)
Our mission at the Toastmasters Storytelling
Club is to:
develop our storytelling abilities using this formula;
improve our presentation skills;
enhance our delivery (via vocal variety, pauses, energy, intensity, etc.)
stretching our strengths and overcoming any weak points;
expand our imagination, space, outlook and finally vision for the
future; and
provide a mutually supportive and positive learning
environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication
and leadership
skills thereby fostering self-confidence
and personal growth.
Storytelling is a
craft; one that needs to be worked on constantly in order to become proficient.
